Points Engine & Scoring Rules

Overview

The Points Engine allows community administrators to award points to members for taking meaningful actions across modules and third-party integrations. These rules define point rewards, safety caps against inflation, member eligibility criteria, and automatic notifications.


Creating a Point Rule

Step 1: Open the Creation Page

  1. From the dashboard sidebar, navigate to Gamification → Points & Badges.
  2. Click the Points tab or navigate directly to the Points Manager.
  3. Click the Add Rule button in the top-right corner.

Step 2: Configure Origin & Action Triggers

  • Origin Source: Select whether the action comes from an internal Core Module (e.g., Community, Courses, Events) or an external Integration (e.g., Shopify, Discord, Slack).
  • Module / App: Select the specific module or integrated app.
  • Action Identifier: Select or enter the specific event (e.g., create_post, complete_lesson, attend_event, purchase_product).
  • Trigger Type:
    • One-Off / First Time: Points are awarded only once when a member completes the action for the very first time.
    • Recurring: Points are awarded every single time the member completes the action.
    • Milestone: Points are awarded when reaching cumulative milestones or streak counts.

Step 3: Set Point Values & Economic Caps

  • Point Value: Specify how many points the member receives upon completion (e.g., 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, or a custom value).
  • Description: Add a summary explaining the purpose and intent of this rule for administrative records.
  • Earning Limits (Frequency Caps):
    • Daily Cap: The maximum number of points a single member can earn from this rule within 24 hours.
    • Weekly Cap: The maximum points per week.
    • Monthly Cap: The maximum points per month.
    • Note: Leave caps blank or set to 0 for unlimited earning.

Step 4: Define Member Eligibility

Control which members can earn points through this rule:

  • All Members: Open to everyone in the community.
  • Specific Membership Tiers: Restrict earning only to members belonging to specific tiers (e.g., Gold, VIP, Founding Members).
  • Specific User Segments: Restrict earning to selected individual users or test groups.

Step 5: Automated Notifications (Optional)

Configure immediate alerts sent to members when they earn points from this rule:

  • Push Notifications:
    • Enable/disable push alerts.
    • Set custom Title and Message Body.
  • Email Notifications:
    • Enable/disable email alerts.
    • Set custom Email Subject and Message Body.
  • Tip: Use placeholders such as {{points}}, {{action}}, and {{user}} to personalize messages.

Step 6: Save and Publish

Click Save Rule in the bottom panel. The rule becomes active immediately.


Editing an Existing Point Rule

Full Rule Editor

  1. Go to the Points page.
  2. Locate the rule in the table or grid.
  3. Click the Actions Menu (...) on the rule row and select Edit Rule.
  4. Modify the required fields (points value, caps, eligibility, notification text, or active status).
  5. Click Save Changes in the floating bottom action bar.

Quick Actions

  • Toggle Active / Inactive:
    • Flip the switch in the Status column of any rule to enable or pause point distribution immediately without opening the edit screen.
  • Quick Notification Updates:
    • Click Actions (...) → Edit Notifications to update push/email alert copy via a modal without navigating away.
  • Duplicate Rule:
    • Click Actions (...) → Duplicate to quickly clone an existing rule setup with new values.
  • Delete / Archive Rule:
    • Click Actions (...) → Delete Rule to remove obsolete rules.

Viewing Point Rule Details & Insights

Key Metrics Bar

At the top of the Points Manager, the dashboard provides live stats:

  • Total Points Issued: Total lifetime points rewarded across all activities.
  • Active Scoring Rules: Count of currently live rules awarding points.
  • Rules with Caps: Rules protected against abuse with daily/weekly limits.
  • Total Point Events: Cumulative trigger executions recorded.

Display Views

  • Table View: Comprehensive view with columns for Serial Number, Origin Module, Source, Action Name, Points per trigger, Frequency Caps, Eligibility Tiers, Notification Badges, Status Switch, and Action Options.
  • Grid View: Visual card layout highlighting points badge, trigger frequency, eligibility badges, and quick toggles.

Badges Engine

Overview

Badges are visual achievements unlocked by members when they complete specific milestones, show consistent engagement, or perform notable actions across modules and integrations.


Creating a Badge

Step 1: Access the Creation Page

  1. From the dashboard sidebar, navigate to Gamification → Points & Badges.
  2. Switch to the Badges tab.
  3. Click the Add Badge button in the top-right corner.

Step 2: Visual Identity & Details

  • Badge Name: A distinct title for the achievement (e.g., Community Pioneer, Course Champion, Top Contributor).
  • Badge Description: The public summary shown to users explaining how the badge is earned.
  • Badge Icon / Artwork:
    • Emoji / Vector Picker: Select from categorized icon sets (Success & Achievement, Rare & Premium, Community, Streaks).
    • Custom Image Upload: Upload custom SVG, PNG, or WebP graphics with integrated cropping.

Step 3: Trigger Conditions & Milestone Criteria

  • Origin Source: Select whether the badge trigger comes from a Core Module (e.g., Community, Courses, Events) or an Integration (e.g., Shopify, Discord).
  • Module / Integration: The specific subsystem monitoring member actions.
  • Trigger Event / Action: The specific event required (e.g., post_created, quiz_passed, event_attended).
  • Occurrence / Threshold Count: The number of times the action must be completed before the badge is awarded (e.g., 1 time for immediate award, 10 times for a streak milestone).

Step 4: Member Eligibility

Control who can earn this badge:

  • All Members: Available for anyone in the community to unlock.
  • Specific Membership Tiers: Limited exclusively to selected membership tiers (e.g., VIP, Gold, Pro).
  • Specific User Segments: Restricted to designated user lists or pilot cohorts.

Step 5: Automated Award Notifications

Configure automatic alerts sent immediately when a member unlocks the badge:

  • Push Notification: Toggle on/off, set alert title and body copy.
  • Email Notification: Toggle on/off, set email subject and congratulatory message.
  • Personalization Tags: Use {{badge_name}}, {{user}}, and {{points}} in notification templates.

Step 6: Save & Publish

Click Save Badge in the floating bottom panel to publish the badge immediately.


Ranks & Level Progression

Overview

Ranks represent long-term standing and prestige levels based on cumulative points earned by members. As members accumulate points across the platform, they automatically ascend through ranks (e.g., Bronze → Silver → Gold → Diamond).


Creating a Rank

Step 1: Access the Creation Page

  1. From the dashboard sidebar, navigate to Gamification → Points & Badges.
  2. Switch to the Ranks tab.
  3. Click the Add Rank button in the top-right corner.

Step 2: Rank Identity & Hierarchy

  • Rank Name: The title of the rank tier (e.g., Novice, Explorer, Master, Legend).
  • Rank Priority / Level: Numerical rank order (e.g., Level 1, Level 2, Level 3). Higher priority reflects higher status.
  • Minimum Points Threshold: The cumulative points balance required for a member to reach and unlock this rank (e.g., 0 for base rank, 500 for Silver, 2,500 for Gold, 10,000 for Diamond).

Step 3: Color Themes & Rank Badge Icon

  • Color Accent / Theme: Select a preset metallic/gem theme (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Amethyst, Obsidian) or set a custom HEX color code.
  • Rank Icon:
    • Choose a themed emoji/symbol (Trophies, Crowns, Shields, Stars, Gems).
    • Or upload a custom branded badge graphic.

Step 4: Perks & Public Description

  • Description / Perks: Detail the benefits, status privileges, or exclusive community access granted to members holding this rank.
  • Public Display: Toggle whether the rank badge and flair appear publicly on member profiles and leaderboards.

Step 5: Rank Ascension Notifications

Send automated congratulations when a member levels up:

  • Push Notification: Instant mobile/in-app alert announcing the new rank level.
  • Email Notification: Detailed email celebrating the rank milestone and highlighting unlocked perks.
  • Personalization Tags: Use {{rank_name}}, {{user}}, and {{points}}.

Step 6: Save & Publish

Click Save Rank to activate the tier. Members who meet the point threshold will automatically be assigned this rank.


Leaderboards

Leaderboards rank members based on point accumulation across customizable time windows:

  • All-Time: Overall platform champions since inception.
  • Monthly: Fresh competitive rankings refreshed at the 1st of each month.
  • Weekly: Fast-paced weekly sprint competitions.
  • Tier/Group-Specific: Isolated leaderboards restricted to specific membership clubs or subgroups.
